Taking Jesus Out of the Egg. Whats next...a Bunny? UPDATE!
No Spring Spheres for the Children in Seattle
Tasty Spring Spheres
Fox News reported that there was a Seattle teacher that told the kids it was politically incorrect to call Easter Eggs Easter Eggs. They would have to be called Spring Spheres. The local station Fox News got the story and went completely nuts over this outrageous display of political correctness. I wrote about it when the story first appeared and you can get the CTP story here. Today I was reading The Stranger, a Seattle offbeat arts, music and political weekly newspaper. It is often irreverent, unholy, gay friendly and makes no bones about what they think. In short, it is timely. You may know of the editor, Dan Savage, who spearheaded the anti-bullying campaign called It Gets Better. The Stranger reported today that the Spring Sphere story may indeed be a hoax gone viral.
Gay Friendly in Germany:
The Stranger Magazine
The Seattle School District said that they are unable to verify that this event actually happened. They said that they sent a questionnaire to approximately 137 schools in the district and not one district was able to provide further insight to the sphere scandal. The Stranger analysis was revealing by pointing out that the original Spring Sphere was full of hazy facts and undocumented assertions. It started to smell as if some one's idea of a funny prank took on a viral life of its own. Clues such as no last names, an un-named school, witnesses that could not be identified and not a shred of evidence to support the allegation. Indeed, the whole thing may turn out to be a farce.
Fox News:
Shake hard because
this story needs a lot of salt
What makes this story noteworthy is the quick knee-jerk reaction that the local Fox News gave it. Instead of challenging the story as a potential hoax, Fox News went on the air with indignation and outrage. Pretty funny when you find out that the story has no verifiable substance. Seriously, the idea of Jesus in an egg is pretty wacky in the first place. But to see Fox News outraged that we would take Jesus out of the egg- is even more whacked. In defense of Fox, it wouldn't be the first time that a story took wings and was proven to be wrong. Conclusion: watch the video clip and take it with a grain of salt.
